Students volunteer, give back to Panama community
Fifteen students participating in SUNY New Paltz’s Global Medical Brigade Club recently traveled across the globe to Panama to partner with the non-profit organization Global Brigades—the world’s largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization.
While abroad, New Paltz students assisted a medical and dental team in developing a medical clinic and providing medical assistance to more than 300 patients in the La Yeguada community. Additionally, the group shadowed doctors, assisted in dental hygiene care, participated in public health discussions, and assisted pharmacists in distribution of prescribed medications.
According to Maria Hornbeck ’14 (Biology), this is the second time the group traveled to and provided services to those in the Panama community.
