Hawks Lose Men’s Basketball Contest

NEW PALTZ — Despite outshooting Fredonia by nearly three full percentage points, New Paltz still fell, 70-57, in its SUNYAC men’s basketball game on Friday night at Elting Gymnasium.

Blue Devil forward Robb Fitchlee (seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks, two steals) exploded for 27 points, including 17 in the second half, as Fredonia shot 56 percent from the field in the period to help erase a 30-27 halftime deficit.

Robert Jones had 12 points in a losing effort for New Paltz (2-5 overall, 1-3 SUNYAC), which was uncharacteristically outrebounded 42-22 in the contest.

New Paltz will look to get back on a winning note to close the first semester at 4 p.m. tomorrow afternoon against Buffalo State.
