Men’s Soccer Team Settles For Tie With Brockport

BROCKPORT — A goal called back in overtime kept New Paltz from winning its men’s soccer contest on Saturday afternoon in Brockport. Instead, New Paltz settled for a 1-1 double overtime tie with the host Golden Eagles.

Mark Maleski scored 7:21 into the contest to give Brockport (4-1-1 overall, 2-1-1 SUNYAC) an early lead, which it held until former Onteora High standout Josh Elohim scored the game-tying goal for the (1-7-2 overall, 1-2-1 SUNYAC) Hawks on an assist from his brother Orah with seven minutes left in regulation.

Neither team scored in the two overtime periods, but Brockport won the ensuing penalty kick shootout, 3-2, which may be needed later in the season to break ties in determining SUNYAC Tournament participants. Freshman goalkeeper Kevin Smith made six saves for the Hawks in preserving the tie.

New Paltz returns home to host Fredonia (Friday at 4 p.m.) and Buffalo State (Saturday at 1 p.m.) next weekend.
