Bennett Nets Game Winner Against Fredonia
NEW PALTZ, NY — First year Brittany Bennett (Smithtown/Smithtown West) netted her first collegiate goal in the 11th minute on a pass from senior Stephanie Potts (Cortlandt Manor/Lakeland), which would prove to be the game winner, as the Hawks defeated the Fredonia Blue Devils 1-0. With the win, the Hawks advance to 3-3-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in conference play. This is the first time since 2002 that the Hawks have defeated the Blue Devils with their all time record improving against Fredonia improving to 4-10.
In the 23rd minute Fredonia’s Jessica Loretz fired a shot from the right side, just missing the left goal post. Three minutes later Loretz fed a ball to Danielle Bleecker who headed a shot wide left. Six minutes into the second stanza, New Paltz was applying the offensive pressure and was awarded a corner kick. Off the corner, Jennifer Anselmi (North Rockland) headed a shot which was scooped up by Fredonia keeper Molly Bojanek. The Blue Devils narrowly out shot the Hawks, 18-17 while New Paltz held the corner kick advantage 5-3. Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville) posted the shutout in nets with seven saves.
New Paltz returns to action tomorrow when they host Buffalo State at 1pm.
