Dana Lim First Hawk To Reach Finals At NYSWCAA Tournament
ITHACA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team continued play today for the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament at the Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca New York.
For the first time in school history a member of the Hawks singles team has advanced into finals play. Freshman standout Dana Lim defeated Amanda Husson of Cortland in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Lim has helped the Hawks make school history for a second week in a row. Dana Lim advances to the finals round tomorrow where she will meet the number one seed from Vassar College Kelly Graham.
At the end of play last night, the Hawks number one doubles team of Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) and Dana Lim (New City, NY) fell to the number one seed in the tournament, Kelly Graham and Debbie Sharnak of Vassar College 3-8.
At number two doubles for the Hawks, senior Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) and Jennifer Larson (Port Jervis, NY) defeated Katie Petosa and Julie Scarano of Hartwick College 8-3. Fenton and Larson advance to the quarterfinal round this evening where they will meet the number one seed from Vassar College Katy Robinette and Krista Romita.
At number three doubles for the Hawks, the duo of Ashley and Lindsay Trifiletti (Mamaroneck, NY) fell to the number one seed from Vassar College Courtney Burks and Jamison Steele 0-8.
The Hawks sophomore Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) fell to Debbie Sharnak of Vassar College in the quaterfinals by a score of 6-2, 6-0. Senior Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) lost a tough match to Jenny Grabler of Skidmore 6-2, 5-7, 1-6. After winning the first set, Fenton had a chance to capture straight sets victories, but missed on an overhand shot.
The Hawks Dana Lim will continue her play tomorrow at the number two singles championship.
