SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Grabs Win in Anniversary Game

KINGSTON, NY — This afternoon, the SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team broke their five-game losing streak with a 3-2 overtime victory over Vassar.

SUNY New Paltz (5-10) celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the 1965 NCAA Atlantic Coast Men’s Soccer Championship Team with a dramatic win over local rival Vassar College. Senior forward Joe Fabian (Selden, NY) scored the game-winner only 48 seconds into the overtime period to give the Hawks the 3-2 triumph.

Fabian put the Hawks on the board in the first half and cut the Vassar lead to 2-1 entering halftime. The Brewers had jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring twice on their first three shots. Junior forward Adam Marsh (Bloomfield, MI) and senior Francesco Galetto (Washington, D.C.) recorded goals for Vassar (3-6-3).

In the second half, senior midfielder Dan Libardi (Canaan, NY) combined with fellow captain, Fabian, to tie the affair and send it to the extra period.

Junior goalkeeper Patrick Carlucci (Goshen, NY) totaled eight saves on the afternoon, picking up the win. Freshman goalkeeper Jason Cetel (Cherry Hill, NY) recorded two saves in the loss.
