SUNY New Paltz Cross Country Teams Compete at Hamilton
CLINTON, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed at the Hamilton College Invitational today. The men’s team took an eleventh place finish while the women finished tenth. The Hawks show much success and improvement with consistant time shaving throughout completion of each meet.
The Hawks were paced by junior Harry Sudwischer (Copiauge, NY) who finished with an impressive 73rd place finish in a time of 29:45. Freshman Sean Brown (Verplanek, NY) who finished 85th with a time of 30:23 crossed the finish line next for SUNY New Paltz. Senior George Correa (Central Islip, NY) finished 88th with a strong performance at 31:05. Also finishing in the top five finishers for the Hawks were: Junior Mike Nelson (Dix Hills, NY) 94th, 31:55, and freshman Mark Kelly-Safir (Poland, ME) 97th, 32:39.
SUNY New Paltz men?s cross-country team finished eleventh overall with 338 points. Led by a team of strong runners, Queens (Canada) won the meet with 65 points. Roberts Wesleyan’s Julius Rono finished first with a time of 25:04. Fredonia was a close second with 71 points and host Hamilton College was a distant third with 94 points.
Senior Kate Choromanski (Shelton, CT) led the women’s team to a 10th place finish. Choromanski finished with a time of 19:51 and a 25th place finish. Junior Alida Almelo (Groton, NY) finished 26th with a time of 19:53. Junior Kelly Dunphy (Hauppauge, NY) crossed the finish line in 20:15 and came in 39th. With a time of 20:51, junior Winter Eyers (Selkirk, NY) finshed the race 53rd.
Rounding out the top five for the Hawks was sophmore Christie Carlstrom (Newburgh, NY) who was 67th with a time of 21:20. The Hawks finished the meet with 205 points. Host Hamilton College finished first with 72 points. Autumn Swan from Hartwick College won the race with a time of 18:03.
On Saturday October 15, the Hawks will travel to Albany for the University of Albany Invitational.
