SUNY New Paltz Women’s Soccer Team Splits Conference Weekend

NEW PALTZ, NY — This afternoon the SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team fell to Geneseo by a score of 2-0. With a split in this weekend’s conference play the Hawks are 6-3-1 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Sophomore midfielder Nicole Schwartz (Melville, NY) put Geneseo (5-4, 5-1) up early in the first half. Schwartz, left unmarked, booted the ball from the right side into the net to give the Blue Knights the 1-0 lead. Before the end of the first half, Geneseo would add an insurance goal off the foot of junior forward Emily Petraglia (Delmar, NY). Senior forward Jackie Fertitta’s (Roslyn, NY) initial shot was saved by freshman goalkeeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY), but Petraglia gathered the rebound and placed it into the net for the 2-0 advantage.

The Hawks played a spirited second half, but failed to cut into the Blue Knight’s lead. Junior forward Kerri Kelty had two late shots on sophomore goalkeeper Diane Long (Kenmore, NY), but came away empty handed. Long picked up the shutout and totaled five saves. Boccard finished the afternoon with seven saves for the Hawks.
