SUNY New Paltz Softball Team Overpowers DCCC and NYU

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Softball Team completed their fall season on Saturday October 1 at Mary Gray Deane Field winning four games. The Hawks opened up with a doubleheader sweep of Dutchess County Community College and would complete the day with a doubleheader sweep of New York University.

The Hawks were lead by the defensive efforts of senior first baseman Liz McPartlan (Huntington Station, NY) and senior third baseman Danielle Porcelli (Huntington Station, NY) giving up only three unearned runs in 21 innings of play.

Offensively, the bats of the Hawks got hot late in the first game against Dutchess County Community College, but after an explosive fourth inning, there was no stopping the hit parade. Lead by sophomore catcher Lauren Motzkin (Woodstock, NY) the Hawks combined for a total of 55 runs in the four games. SUNY New Paltz continued to blast hits into the outfield gaps throughout the games against New York University.

The Hawks pitching staff gave a stellar performance, with sophomore pitcher Michelle Reinke (St. James, NY) pitching 11 innings with a shutout against NYU and no earned runs. While sophomore pitcher Kelly O’Hea (Huntington Station, NY) pitched 10 innings giving up no earned runs and shutting out NYU as well.

The Hawks Softball team received excellent performances from every player on the team this fall. We look forward to an exciting season from the Hawks in the spring.
