SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Gets Conference Win Over Potsdam

NEW PALTZ, NY — This afternoon at Alumni Field, The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team earned their first conference win of the season with a 1-0 double overtime victory over Potsdam.

One minute and forty seconds into the second overtime, senior defender Ryan Shanks (Sound Beach, NY) played a perfect lob into the box, where junior forward Greg Foss (Queensbury, NY) darted a shot past Potsdam sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Lattimore (Gansevoort, NY) to give the Hawks the 1-0 victory. Foss’ tally ends a Hawks scoreless streak of 381:41.

SUNY New Paltz (4-5, 1-2) junior goalkeeper Masanori Hotta (Hyogo, Japan) earned his first shutout of 2005, recording six saves. Thanks to a strong Hawk defense Hotta did not see much work early. SUNY New Paltz held Potsdam (0-6-3, 1-2) to six shots in regulation, most of which came in the final five minutes. Lattimore totaled eight saves in the loss.

The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team will take on conference rival Plattsburgh tomorrow, Saturday, September 24 at 1:00 pm.
