Diversity & Inclusion Council resumes conversation at fall 2018 breakfast
SUNY New Paltz’s Diversity & Inclusion Council hosted a breakfast for students, faculty and staff on Wednesday, Sept. 12, creating an opportunity to look back at progress made, and look ahead to new conversations and community building efforts.
The Council officially formed in early 2017 following approval and publication of the College’s Diversity & Inclusion Plan. Council members have taken on a leadership role in the broader effort to enhance inclusion and access in all aspects of the campus environment.
That work continued at the fall semester breakfast. The Diversity & Inclusion Council led dozens of attendees in exercises designed to promote honest expression and listening in a judgement-free zone.
The conversation touched on topics including connection to places and spaces; productive collaboration that honors different ways of self-identifying; and extending an inclusive campus environment out into the broader world.
The Council’s work will continue through the 2018-19 academic year, as members undertake a campus-wide listening tour and lead or partner on a range of events and workshops.
