Art Uncorked auction to benefit the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art

The Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at SUNY New Paltz announces Art Uncorked 2018, an evening of food, wine, and silent and live auctions on Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 6 – 9 p.m., at The Century Association, 7 West 43rd Street, New York City.

Art Uncorked is the Dorsky Museum’s premier fundraising event of the year, with proceeds supporting exhibitions, publications and educational programs for New Paltz students and the broader public.

The Dorsky is pleased to recognize Steven Holl, one of America’s most important architects, as this year’s Special Honored Guest.

Radio personality Paul Higgins of WZXE will serve as the evening’s Master of Ceremonies and auctioneer Tom Fletcher of Fletcher Gallery in Woodstock will guide the bidding for the Live Auction.

Steven Holl

As the principal and lead designer of Steven Holl Architects, founded in 1977, Steven Holl is recognized for his ability to blend space and light with great contextual sensitivity. He specializes in seamlessly integrating new projects in contexts that have cultural and historic importance.

Steven Holl Architects has realized cultural, civic, university, and residential projects in the U.S. and around the world, most recently the Lewis Arts Complex at Princeton University (2017) and Maggie’s Centre Barts in London, United Kingdom (2017). Currently under construction is the Expansion Project for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Campus Expansion.

Holl himself has been recognized with several international awards, including the 2014 Praemium Imperiale International Arts Award for Architecture and the AIA 2012 Gold Medal Award. He is a tenured professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture and Planning.

Holl’s work and process were the subject of Steven Holl: Making Architecture, which was on display at The Dorsky Museum at SUNY New Paltz from Feb. 10 – July 15, 2018, as the first museum exhibition to explore this Hudson Valley master’s creative influences and his significant impact on contemporary architecture.

About the Dorsky Museum
Through its collections, exhibitions and public programs, the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at SUNY New Paltz supports and enriches the academic programs at the College, presents a broad range of world art for study and enjoyment, and serves as a center for Hudson Valley arts and culture. With more than 9,000 square feet of exhibition space distributed over six galleries, The Dorsky Museum is one of the largest museums within the SUNY system.
