Buffalo State Edges SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Team 2-1
KINGSTON, NY — Buffalo State jumped out to an 2-0 lead in the first half and managed to hold off The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team 2-1 this afternoon at Dietz Stadium.
In the 14th minute, sophomore defenseman Matt Ketchum (Churchville, NY) set up sophomore midfielder Randy Haight (Roseville, NY) for a run at net. Haight’s shot found the right corner of the net to give the Bengals a 1-0 lead. With just under ten minutes to play in the first half, junior forward Richard Namulala (Kenmore, NY) put a free kick into the box where senior midfielder Matt Romano (Eden, NY) headed the ball past sophomore goalie Jake Lammers (Highland, NY) to put Buffalo State (7-0-1, 2-0) up 2-0 at the half.
SUNY New Paltz (1-6, 1-1) picked up the tempo in the second half and made the Bengals work for their win. In the 46th minute, a free kick into the box was deflected off sophomore forward Greg Foss (Queensbury, NY). Sophomore midfielder Justin Thompson (Babylon, NY) found the deflection and touched it into the net to bring the Hawks within one.
Despite several chances in the final minutes, the Bengals managed to hold off the Hawks attack and remained unbeaten in their last eight games.
