SUNY New Paltz Men’s Volleyball Team Prevails in Five Games
MAHWAH, NJ — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team withstood a 36-34 loss in the fourth game to earn a 3-2 road win over Ramapo this afternoon.
The Hawks committed just two errors in the fifth game and hit .381 to record a 15-10 win in the deciding game. The win improved SUNY New Paltz to 12-6 overall and 6-3 in the North Eastern Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA). More importantly, SUNY New Paltz maintained its hold on third place in the Metro Division standings with its second win of the season against the Roadrunners (16-13, 6-5).
Junior outside hitter Chris Ganje (Halfmoon, NY) led the way with 23 kills, six digs and seven block assists. Sophomore middle blocker Greg Jackson (North Central Square, NY) added 11 kills and hit .474 for the match. Junior outside hitter Mike LaRocco (Hauppauge, NY) registered a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs.
Sophomore setter Kevin Buggs (Tonawanda, NY) had 57 assists for SUNY New Paltz who won the opening game 30-20. Ramapo hit .300 in the second game to edge the Hawks 30-28. SUNY New Paltz won the third game 30-23 to set the stage for an extended fourth game and a deciding fifth game.
