Grimmer Leads SUNY IT Past New Paltz, 81-71

NEW PALTZ, NY — Junior guard Nick Grimmer (New Hartford, NY) scored 30 points to lead SUNY IT to an 81-71 win over SUNY New Paltz this evening at Elting Gym.

SUNY IT outscored New Paltz 13-6 over the last three minutes to pull away and improve to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC. Grimmer was one of four Wildcats who finished in double figures. Senior guard Leonardo Leon (Washington Heights, NY) added 14 points while senior guard Malcolm Stanton (Queens, NY) and senior forward Jerry Buckley (Binghamton, NY) scored 13 and 12 points respectively.

New Paltz freshman forward Amseshem Foluke-Henderson (Jamaicia, NY) keyed a second half rally that cut a 15-point Wildcat lead down to three, 68-65, with 3:16 to play. Foluke-Henderson scored 10 of his team-high 24 points during a 10-minute surge that put the Hawks within a three-point field goal of tying it. Grimmer however scored the next four points for SUNY IT and New Paltz was unable to draw any closer.

Behind a 15-point first half effort from Grimmer, SUNYIT led by as many as 10 and took a 42-34 lead at the break. The Wildcats were 7-of-14 from beyond the three-point arc in the first 20 minutes and sank 10 three-point field goals on the night.

Freshman forward John Hauser (East Williston, NY) added 10 points for New Paltz who dropped its third in a row and fell to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in the SUNYAC.

In a game decided by 10 points, New Paltz hit just 6-of-19 at the foul line and was 3-of-13 from three-point range.
