Mazurowski and Hollis Earn All-SUNYAC Volleyball Honors
NEW PALTZ, NY — Sophomore middle hitter Christina Mazurowski (Tonawanda, NY — Kenmore East) and senior setter Jennifer Hollis (Livingston, NJ — Livingston HS) were among 12 women’s volleyball players named to the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Team this afternoon.
Mazurowski became the first New Paltz sophomore to earn All- SUNYAC honors since Beligica Santana was an all-conference selection in 1998. A first-time all-league selection, Mazurowski averaged 2.8 kills, 1.1 blocks and had a .312 hitting percentage this season.
Hollis was an honorable mention selection for the second straight year. She played in 109 of the Hawks’ 129 games and dished out a career-high 755 assists for an average of 6.9 per game.
New Paltz fell one match shy of playing in the SUNYAC Tournament for the first time since 1999. The Hawks lost a 3-1, one-match playoff to Plattsburgh on November 7 for the right to claim the sixth and final spot in the conference tournament.
New Paltz finished the year with a 17-19 record under second-year Head Coach Matt Giufre and posted its highest win total since winning 21 matches in 1999.
