Utica Scores Seven Unanswered Goals to Defeat New Paltz Field Hockey Team
UTICA, NY — Karyn Connors scored four goals to help lead Utica College to a 7-2 win over SUNY New Paltz this afternoon.
Connors and the Lady Pioneers erased an early 2-0 deficit and scored five times in the final 15 minutes to earn their eighth victory in 10 games.
New Paltz (2-7) scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the game to jump out to the early lead. Sophomore Patricia Erikson (Massapequa Park, NY) had an unassisted goal six minutes into the game. Three minutes later sophomore Musu Jackson Buckner (Buffalo, NY) found the net to put the Hawks ahead 2-0.
Connors got Utica on the board with 14:19 remaining in the first half. She then scored 36 seconds into the second half to even up the game at 2-2.
The game remained tied for much of the second half before Amanda Ianello scored an unassisted goal with 14:17 remaining that gave the Lady Pioneers the lead for good.
Ahead 3-2, Shannon Rohacek added an insurance goal for Utica one minute later. Connors then took over scoring twice in a three minute span to put the game out of reach.
Rohacek also had two goals for the Lady Pioneers who outshot New Paltz 34-5.
Hawks goalie Erica Engstrom (Montauk, NY) turned away 28 Utica shots in the game.
