New Paltz Men’s Soccer Team Falls, 4-2, to # 14 Plattsburgh State
PLATTSBURGH, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team fell, 4-2, to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent and 14th ranked Plattsburgh State this afternoon.
New Paltz (1-3-1, 0-1) took a 1-0 lead with 45 seconds remaining in the first half when freshman Joe Fabian (Selden, NY) took advantage of a Plattsburgh miscue and put one past Cardinals junior goalkeeper Jeff Adams (Baldwinsville, NY).
Plattsburgh (6-0, 1-0) tied the game at 1-1 just 15 seconds into the second half on a goal by sophomore Pat Simone (Hartford, CT). New Paltz took a 2-1 advantage on a goal by senior Mario Lavacca (Port Washington, NY) at the 61:35 mark, but sophomore Tim Stanley (Newport, VT) knotted the game at 2-2 at the 64:50 mark.
Sophomore Mike Figliola (Mississauga, Ontario) scored the game-winning goal for Plattsburgh at the 69:40 mark and added an insurance goal at the 72:18 mark.
Adams made five saves in the victory and Hawks junior goalkeeper Brendan Morris (Hopewell Junction, NY) stopped seven shots in the loss.
New Paltz returns to the field when they play at SUNYAC foe Potsdam on Saturday, September 20.
