SUNY New Paltz Hawks Women’s Tennis Team Remains Perfect with 7-1 Win over Oneonta
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz Hawks women s tennis team remained perfect this season with a 7-1 win over State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Oneonta. The Hawks upped their record to 4-0 while the Red Dragons fell to 2-3.
New Paltz captured two of the three doubles matches and five singles matches. Junior Kerry Farrell (Rockville Centre, NY) defeated freshman Nicole Lindell (East Greenbush, NY) 6-2, 6-2 at number one singles and senior Becky Sparacin (Goshen, NY) defeated freshman Aubrey Mannula (Hopewell Junction, NY) 6-3, 6-2 at number two singles. Farrell and Sparacin paired up to defeat Lindell and Mannula, 8-6, at number one doubles.
The duo of Amie and Jen Larson (Port Jervis, NY) remained unbeaten at number two doubles with an 8-2 victory over senior Trudy Hudson (Hagaman, NY) and junior Erin Pitcher (Dolgeville, NY). Both Amie and Jen won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0 at number four and five, respectively.
The number three singles flight between Sara Goldstein (Merrick, NY) and Hudson ended in a tie due to darkness. Goldstein won the first set 7- 5 but dropped the second set 6-7 (5-7).
