Jackson-Buckner’s OT Goal Lifts Field Hockey Team to 2-1 Win
NEW PALTZ, NY – — Sophomore attacker Musu Jackson-Buckner (Buffalo, NY) drove the length of the field and scored four and a half minutes into the first overtime period to lift SUNY New Paltz to a 2-1 field hockey win over Richard Stockton this afternoon at Dietz Stadium.
After falling 2-0 to Kean in their season opener on Tuesday night, the Hawks evened their record at 1-1. Richard Stockton, playing its inaugural season of varsity field hockey, dropped to 2-2 on the season.
Richard Stockton freshman forward Danielle Gifford (Lumberton, NJ) forced the extra session with an unassisted goal eight minutes into the second half.
SUNY New Paltz, who controlled much of the first half, took a 1-0 lead when sophomore midfielder Lisa Wong (Colts Neck, NY) fired a shot past Richard Stockton freshman goalie Caitlin Nolan (Riverside, NJ). The Hawks outshot the Ospreys 8-1 in the opening half and held a 4-1 advantage in penalty corners.
SUNY New Paltz sophomore goalie Erica Engstrom (Montauk, NY) made four saves to pick up the victory. Nolan had six stops for the Ospreys.
