“On Campus @ SUNY New Paltz” features discussion on recent Math A Regents scores
NEW PALTZ — “On Campus @ SUNY New Paltz,” a 30-minute television show that airs weekly on Time Warner Cable’s Channel 6, will feature a discussion on the recent Math A Regents scores that made headlines across the state in its next episode on Thursday, July 10, at 9 p.m. The Math A Regents scores were eliminated due to poor results and widespread protests.
A panel moderated by Dr. Devon Duhaney, professor of secondary education at SUNY New Paltz, discusses the reasons for the poor results and what might have been done differently. Professor Duhaney’s guests are Dr. Elaine Hofstetter, associate professor of secondary education, SUNY New Paltz; Mr. Arthur Gould, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, Ellenville School District; Mrs. Margaret Venable, math teacher, Newburgh Free Academy; and Ms. Laura Shapiro, former principal and adjunct professor, Lesley College, Cambridge, MA.
The group also talks about possible alternatives to high-stakes Regents exams, which are stressful for students and teachers alike, and the ramifications these alternatives would have on consistency in teaching and testing.
“On Campus @ SUNY New Paltz” will rebroadcast on Monday, July 14, at 9 p.m. on Time Warner Cable Channel 6. The show will also air on New Paltz Local Cable Access Channel 8 on Friday, July 11, at 9 p.m. and Saturday, July 12, at 9 a.m.
“On Campus @ SUNY New Paltz” began in 1997 and is a production of United Media Artists, a group of staff, mostly from Instructional Media Services, and students, who volunteer their talents. The show focuses on news and events of the campus community and, over the years, has featured many faculty and student research projects and activities.
