SUNY New Paltz School of Business has positioned itself as a valuable resource to Hudson Valley businesses. The Bachelor of Science degree programs in Accounting, Finance, General Business, International Business, Management, and Marketing as well as the MBA program graduates scores of students annually.
In reaching out to the local and regional businesses and organizations, the school is a source of information, services, and student interns.
The Business Institute of the SUNY New Paltz School of Business offers businesspeople opportunities to participate in a number of programs, seminars, workshops, and classes designed to enhance their business and leadership skills. Dean Hadi Salavitabar said, “The Business Institute connects the Hudson Valley business community to the college. We are a vital resource to regional businesses and their leaders.”
Two areas of focus for The Business Institute, which is under the direction of Rief Kanan and Ted Clark, are consulting and market research. Using student workers, The Business Institute has completed several marketing surveys for major businesses and organizations in the Hudson Valley. Additionally, a business can benefit from the consulting services of a School of Business faculty member.
Businesses in need of an intern can contact the School of Business. Students are required to take a 1 credit Internship Practicum before becoming an intern. The Practicum features faculty members and business owners who speak on a number of topics from business attire to entrepreneurship. “We want businesses to have a positive experience with our interns,” Salavitabar said. “It’s important that businesses return to us often for interns. Also, we want our student interns to have a clear understanding of the expectations in an internship.” This is a new requirement for student in the School of Business at SUNY New Paltz, and it has been met with a great deal of enthusiasm.
