New Paltz Drops Doubleheader to Division II Molloy
FT. PIERCE, FL – — The New Paltz softball team lost a doubleheader to Molloy this afternoon.
Molloy scored 12 runs in the first two innings to defeat the Hawks 20-8 in the first game. The Lions capitalized on seven New Paltz errors and used a strong pitching effort by Donna Upton who gave up seven hits and walked one for the complete game victory.
Freshman Colleen Powers (Spring Valley, NY) went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Senior Tricia Cascio (Farmingville, NY) had a hit and an RBI as well for New Paltz.
Molloy raised their record to 4-1 with a 15-3 triumph in game two. Five New Paltz errors in the first led to a 10-run inning.
Freshman Danielle Porcelli (Huntington Station, NY) went 2-for-2 and scored a run for the Hawks. Powers collected a hit and drove in two as New Paltz dropped to 0-4.
The Hawks began their Florida trip with losses to Ripon and Nyack and Monday. New Paltz will wrap-up its six-game southern swing with a doubleheader against Rutgers-Newark on Thursday at 10 a.m.
