Celebration of Faculty Authors tradition enjoys first installment at newly renovated STL
The Sojourner Truth Library continued its practice of honoring the work of published authors among the SUNY New Paltz faculty with a Celebration of Faculty Authors reception, held for the first time in the renovated conference room on the Library’s Main Floor.
“New Paltz faculty have published this year more than two dozen books, of scholarly and creative non-fiction, textbooks, fiction and poetry,” said Interim Provost Stella Deen. “I’m delighted that we’re taking the time to celebrate these faculty and the books they have recently published. The diversity of titles and genres we celebrate today testifies to a thriving campus community. Your scholarship and creative production are essential to our College, directly related to the quality of the expertise you share with our students, and helping us fulfill the important goal of inspiring and guiding them.”
“A book represents a remarkable act of solitary persistence,” said Sojourner Truth Library Dean Mark Colvson. “Lots of us may write, may even fill notebooks or computer files, but the author finishes. This is an important difference: the persistence, not just to work toward the goal, but to achieve it. With luck, the author’s idea comes to life in fixed form, independent, and part of a community of ideas given permanent shape. These fixed ideas live in the works you see before you here today.”
The following faculty members were recognized for their publications this year:
Mariah Adin, AMP/C-STEP Brett Barry, Digital Media & Journalism
Holly George-Warren, Digital Media & Journalism Anne Goding, Communication
Howie Good, Digital Media & Journalism Carol Goodman, English
Julie Gorlewski, Secondary Education Judith Halasz, Sociology
Aaron Isabelle, Education Kristopher Jansma, English

Chantal Larose, Business Douglas Maynard, Psychology
Brian Obach, Sociology Amy Papaelias, Art
Jonathan Raskin, Psychology Amelia Rose, Educational Studies

The Celebration of Faculty Authors event is an annual New Paltz tradition, but this year it carried the added significance of being part of a series marking the occasion of the completed renovation and reopening of the Library’s Main Floor.
A “Grand Opening” ribbon-cutting event will be held on April 21, as a capstone to these celebrations of the Library’s past, present and future at SUNY New Paltz.
