Fall lecture series celebrates Jewish history at SUNY New Paltz
The annual Louis and Mildred Resnick Distinguished Lecture Series at SUNY New Paltz is underway and this semester’s theme “Jews and Theatre” invites members of the College community and public to gain a broader understanding of Jewish history.
Every fall semester since 1989, guest writers, speakers and filmmakers who have had an impact on modern Jewish history are welcomed to the College as part of this unique lecture series.
“Those who attend consistently say they have had new worlds opened up for them in culture, history and the arts,” said Gerald Sorin, director of the Resnick Institute. “They always enjoy the cordial and intellectually stimulating interaction between audience and speaker.”
The free series runs every Wednesday (except Sept. 23) through Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Lecture Center 104 on campus.
Peter Antelyes, associate professor of English and director of Jewish Studies at Vassar College, will visit the campus Sept.16 for a lecture entitled “Staging The Shtetl: ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ and the Photographs of Roman Vishniac” and Debra Caplan, assistant professor of theatre at Baruch College, City University of New York, will end the series with a lecture entitled “Death of a Salesman’’s Jewish Homecoming,” on Oct. 14.
