William Paterson Defeats New Paltz 3-0
NEW PALTZ – — The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team dropped to 3-9 on the year following a 3-0 loss to William Paterson this morning at Dietz Stadim.
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead at 26:47 when sophomore midfielder Cheryl Naurath (Clementon, NJ) fired one past Hawks freshman goalie Erica Engstrom (Montauk, NY). William Paterson upped its advantage 2-0 early in the second half when freshman forward Lauren Clark (E. Brunswick, NJ) banged home a pass from freshman midfielder Scout Bargiel (Tranquility, NJ).
Junior forward Krista Hinshillwood (Oaklyn, NJ) added her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 59th minute put the game out of reach.
The Hawks (3-9) fired eight second half shots at William Paterson sophomore goalie Kelly Harchetts (Clarksburg, NY) but were unable to break into the scoring column. Harchetts recorded all seven of her saves in the second half to earn her fifth shutout of the year.
Engstrom made two saves for SUNY New Paltz.
