It is with great sadness that the College shares the news of the passing of Dr. Harry White, former New Paltz professor and department chair (Education). He was 82.
White was a gifted athlete and scholar whose achievements in high school earned him a scholarship to Yale University where he earned a BA in American Studies. He went on to earn a master’s degree in Education from SUNY New Paltz and a Ph.D. from Stanford University in International and Comparative Education.
During his career he served as an elementary school teacher; research associate for Stanford University in Lima, Peru; research specialist for the United States/Brazilian Team for Technical Assistance for Primary Education in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and elementary education advisor for the United States Agency for International Development in Recife, Brazil. In 1993, he retired from SUNY New Paltz after more than 30 years of service.
