Oswego Outguns New Paltz In Lacrosse
NEW PALTZ — Last season, New Paltz women’s lacrosse was outmatched from start to finish against the Oswego Lakers, falling 19-0. Wednesday was a little different though, as the Hawks stuck with the talented Lakers the entire game. Oswego eventually won 19-9.
The Hawks found themselves down 5-0 midway through the first half, but battled back to cut the lead to two on goals from Katie Sharp (Mineola, NY), Alyson Campbell (New Hyde Park, NY), and Megan Porter (Massapequa, NY). That was as close as the Hawks could get as Oswego’s lead slowly grew to six at half, 11-5. The Lakers started the second half with three quick goals giving them an insurmountable lead. Campbell finished the game with four goals to lead New Paltz. The freshman center now has nine goals in her first three collegiate games. Sharp finished with three goals and Jackie Bunzel (Massapequa, NY) had the remaining tally for the Hawks. Adrian Grasso (Oceanside, NY) made 17 saves between the pipes in the match.
New Paltz plays pivotal conference games this weekend on the road against Geneseo and Brockport.
