Men and Women’s Swimming/Diving Victorious Over Vassar, Drew
POUGHKEEPSIE — Both swimming and diving teams swam impressively Wednesday night defeating both Vassar and Drew University in dual meets. The final point totals for the women’s team was 72- 41 over Vassar and 73-38 over Drew. On the men’s side it was New Paltz 81-30 over Vassar and 69-42 over Drew.
Molly Soule (Clinton, NY) and Erin Lalor (Richmond Hill, NY) led the way for the Hawks winning two individual events apiece. Soule took the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.56) and the 100-yard freestyle (56.22) while Lalor placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (26.02) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.14). Christine Foster (East Patchogue, NY) had the best time in the 1000-yard freestyle at 11:40.04 while Kathryn MacCrate (East Setauket, NY) finished first in 3 meter diving with a score of 192.45. The women’s 400-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Soule, Foster, Lalor, and Jessica Armstrong (Wappingers Falls, NY) also finished in the top spot with a time of 3:50.34.
The men wasted little time getting the lead taking the 400- yard medley relay. Jeff Galaise (Torrington, CT), Jon Amoia (Williamsville, NY), Kent Yeung (Flushing, NY), and Jay Sousa (Albany, NY) finished with a time of 3:45.60. In individual events, senior Mark Otto (Sewell, NJ) swept his three races taking the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.66), the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.48), and the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.81). Yeung placed first in the 100-yard freestyle (49.45) and Amoia claimed top honors in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.72).
Both squads will travel to Cortland Saturday for a 1:00 meet before returning home to prepare for the SUNYAC Championships February 13th-16th in Buffalo.
