SUNY extends benefits for students from Temporary Protected Status countries through 2027-28

The SUNY Board of Trustees has approved a resolution to continue a tuition benefit that has provided support for students who are nationals of countries that have been granted Temporary Protected Status.

The benefit allows undergraduate and graduate students to enroll at SUNY campuses for in-state tuition rates in cases where they hold a non-immigrant visa and are from countries designated with Temporary Protected Status.

The federal Temporary Protected Status program authorizes the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security to apply this designation to foreign states where extraordinary and temporary conditions prevent its nationals from returning safely. They are authorized to remain in the United States until those conditions resolve and Temporary Protected Status is lifted.

For SUNY, this resolution extends an ongoing support that helps international students succeed in earning degrees here in New York State, and provides a secure “home away from home” where they can focus on their academic and creative pursuits.
