A new six-week course is available to help CSEA-represented NYS employees read and understand written materials. Participants who sign up for Adult Education Basics Program – Effective Reading Skills 1, an online course, will explore techniques such as skimming, scanning, learning the roots of words, and asking meaningful questions to better understand chosen passages.
Courses will be delivered via Canvas, a web-based learning management system. Canvas enables instructors to present online learning materials and assess student learning. It also allows students to engage in courses and receive feedback about skill development and learning achievement.
All employees must receive supervisory approval to attend courses without charge to leave credits unless the classes are held on the employee’s pass day. Interested employees are advised to register soon because classes fill quickly.
