Free Income Tax Assistance Available through School of Business

The SUNY New Paltz School of Business announces the return of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which provides free tax help to individuals with a gross income of $58,000 or less.

The VITA program connects community members with certified student volunteers who have received IRS training to provide basic tax return preparation assistance and free e-filing.

UPDATE: Starting on March 25, the VITA program will open limited drop-off service in van den Berg Hall room 318, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Fridays. This is in addition to the existing online option. Please bring your tax documents and be prepared to fill out a brief intake form. You’ll be able to pick up your completed return the following week.

The online option remains in place as well. From Feb. 7 through April 18, taxpayers can visit our page at Get Your Refund.org to get started, connect with our volunteers and submit documents.

Student volunteers will then contact taxpayers on the following days:

Monday – Thursday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Those who would like to take advantage of this free service should please prepare to upload their photo ID, Social Security cards, informational statements like W-2s & 1099s, last year’s tax return (if available) and your bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit available.

If you have questions, please contact the VITA program at sunynpvita@gmail.com or (845) 257-2642.
