School of Education faculty member provides address at Indian university conference
Teachers Training College Bhagalpur in India invited Adjunct Mathew Swerdloff to present as a speaker at their conference, “Technology Enabled Teaching and Learning: Challenges and Prospects.”
Swerdloff’s session, “Beyond the Parrot’s Cage: How Technology Can Change Education While Nurturing Connection and Humanity,” brought together two professional passions: technology as a tool of teaching, and relationship building between youth and adults.
The title of the talk refers to “The Parrot’s Tale,” a parable by the Indian poet, Rabindranath Tagore. The titular parrot is “educated” by being put in a gilded cage and literally “stuffed” with knowledge. Swerdloff used this as a metaphor and a jumping-off point for finding more imaginative ways to teach children.
