ITS preparing for move to new anti-malware solution

Information Technology Services is preparing to change our anti-malware solution. After an extensive evaluation of our options, we have decided to move from Symantec Endpoint Protection to SentinelOne.

Why are we making this change now?

  • SentinelOne uses machine learning techniques to analyze behavior of applications to detect malware.
  • We will be able to manage anti-malware and firewalls on Windows, Mac and Linux, using a single application.
  • At the same time, SentinelOne is less resource intensive. Say goodbye to the annoying weekly scan pop-ups! You may notice your College-issued desktops or laptops responding faster once we replace Symantec with SentinelOne.

We are going to be rolling out SentinelOne over the next month, and should have it deployed to most computers issued to faculty and staff by April 30.

Please be aware that installing SentinelOne and removing Symantec will require a reboot of your computer.

There will be a short time where both SentinelOne and Symantec will be installed on a device (since we need to ensure the new application is installed before removing the old antivirus).

The application is only licensed for College-owned computers and we are unable to offer this application for faculty, staff, or students, for their personal devices.
