Cookies for COVID-19 Heroes: March 2021

Getting ready for delivery…

Over the last year, so many people around campus have stood strong on the “front lines,” leading our community’s response to COVID-19.

Staff in the Student Health Service, Residence Life, University Police Department, Contact Tracing and our on-campus testing site received a cookie delivery last week, a small token of thanks for all they’ve done during the last year.

We wanted to share the photos as an open expression of gratitude to these and other COVID-19 Heroes from the SUNY New Paltz community. THANK YOU for all you do!!!

First stop: The Student Health Service! The College’s medical team has been at the heart of our response to COVID-19 since day one.

Next we visit Athletic Trainers Allison Lindsay and Bryan Lurie, who took on the full contact tracing workload in the first months of the pandemic, and continue to support the College’s tracing team.

Residence Life staff have worked tirelessly through the pandemic as many on-campus students’ first point of contact: Helping them adapt to new policies and procedures; providing fun events and programs to keep things engaging in the halls; and of course, assisting with operations at our on-campus quarantine spaces in Awosting and Mohonk Hall.

We can’t overlook the hard work of dozens of community members at our on-campus COVID-19 testing facility. In fall 2020 the testing site was staffed almost entirely by volunteers, supervised by Assistant Athletic Director Keith Kenney. This spring there have been opportunities for more students to get involved in paid roles that double as great experience for those interested in careers in health care.

No list of “front-line” COVID-19 Heroes would be complete without mentioning University Police Department officers and staff, who continue to protect and serve our community every single day.
