Registration now open for Summer 2019 Literacy Tutoring

Literacy Center will provide complimentary literacy assessments on May 7 for kids in grades k-8

The Literacy Center at SUNY New Paltz is accepting applications for kids’ summer literacy tutoring, and will offer free literacy assessments to help parents determine whether literacy tutoring may be necessary for their children.

The Summer 2019 Literacy Tutoring Program takes place at the Literacy Center on the New Paltz campus. It is open to any children entering kindergarten through grade 8 in September 2019.

The program will take place from July 9 – 11, July 15 – 18, July 22 – 25 and July 29 – 31. Morning and afternoon sessions are available; participants are expected to attend all of the morning sessions or all of the afternoon sessions. Tuition for the program is $125.

Parents who are unsure whether their children can benefit from literacy tutoring are invited to a free, open-door literacy assessment day on Tuesday, May 7, from 5: 30 – 7:00 p.m.

Graduate candidates in the MS Literacy Education program will provide complimentary literacy assessments, under the supervision of a literacy professor, to children in the k-8 age range. The assessments are designed to identify basic literacy strengths and weaknesses.

Following the assessment, parents will receive a report that can be shared with their children’s teachers, and literacy specialists will make recommendations, if necessary, for further literacy instruction.

The Literacy Center at SUNY New Paltz serves Hudson Valley community members with clinical expertise in the diagnosis and remediation of reading and writing difficulties. It also provides future teachers with valuable, hands-on professional experience helping children improve their literacy skills.
