The Department of Theatre Arts at SUNY New Paltz has the 10th best Bachelor of Arts degree program in Theatre Arts anywhere in the United States, according to a new ranking from the theatre profession publication, OnStage Blog.
OnStage’s Top 25 B.A. Theatre Programs for 2018-19 list has New Paltz inside the Top 10 among public and private colleges and universities with similar offerings.
The methodology evaluates each program on a number of metrics, including quality of facilities, quality of faculty, performance opportunities and cost of tuition.
The Top 25 BA list recognizes “BA programs [that] are helping prepare their students better than most BFA programs,” according to OnStage.
The publication offered particular praise for New Paltz’s Praxis Series, which provides unique challenges and opportunities to students in all aspects of theatre production. The Praxis Series frequently serves as a vehicle for student-written work, and often brings guest directors to campus in order to help students understand their performance or stagecraft in a new light.
