College mourns passing of former University Police Officer Gary Pietropaolo
It is with sadness that the College shares the news of the passing of Gary Pietropaolo, 29, on June 7. Pietropaolo succumbed to injuries sustained in an off-duty motorcycle accident.
Pietropaolo joined the University Police Department in 2010 and served until 2016, when he joined the Carmel Police Department. He is remembered by former colleagues as a great officer and friend.
In a statement, Town of Carmel Police Department Chief Michael Cazzari said, “For those of us who had the chance to work and know Gary, he was a great officer and friend to all. We will miss Gary’s never ending smile, professionalism and caring attitude.”
The Daily Freeman reports Pietropaolo was scheduled to take a sergeant’s exam for a possible promotion and had plans to be married this June.
A visitation will be held on June 11 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Homes in Mahopac, N.Y. A mass of Christian burial will be held on June 12 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James the Apostle Church in Carmel, N.Y.
Members of the SUNY New Paltz University Police Department will participate in the funeral procession of patrol cars.
