HVAMC Summer Institute offers intensive, five-day 3D printing applications training for engineering and design professionals
The Hudson Valley Advanced Manufacturing Center (HVAMC) at SUNY New Paltz invites engineers, entrepreneurs, manufacturers and designers to the Summer Additive Manufacturing Institute, to be held on the New Paltz campus from July 31 – Aug. 4.
The first of its kind in the nation, this five-day crash course harnesses the HVAMC staff’s knowledge and expertise in 3D printing applications and provides access to state-of-the-art Stratasys and MakerBot printers.
Participants will learn advanced techniques and best practices for creating advanced prototypes and end-use parts with applications in disciplines as diverse as aerospace, medicine, industrial prototyping and jewelry making.
“I really believe the Summer Institute has the potential to be a groundbreaking next step for the use of 3D printing across a range of industries,” said HVAMC Director Daniel Freedman. “Academic institutions typically focus on developing new 3D printing technology, but since we opened our doors in 2013, we have concentrated on discovering creative and innovative uses of existing technologies. That’s what we hope to share at the Summer Institute: our knowledge, gained over years of careful experience, of the seven additive manufacturing processes, hundreds of materials and unlimited applications that are already available to businesses and individuals.”
The advanced program is tailored for professionals who possess a strong Computer Aided Design (CAD) background. The Summer Institute will provide access to Solidworks and Rhinoceros; participants who wish to use other CAD programs should bring a personal laptop or device.
