April 3 panel will examine intersection of Jewish & LGBTQ identities
The SUNY New Paltz Foundation and the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences will present “Jewish & Queer: A panel discussion,” Monday, April 3, at 7 p.m. in Lecture Center 104.
This wide-ranging conversation will feature three prominent scholars working in this emerging interdisciplinary space:
This event builds upon the work being done in a new course on Gender & Judaism, which is led by visiting professor Rena Blumenthal. Students are studying the ways in which gender has defined Jewish civilization from the biblical era to the present, and how the contemporary feminist movement has brought changes to the conditions and practices of modern day Jewish life.
Both the course and the panel event are made possible thanks to a generous grant provided by the Robert Sillins Family Foundation to support programming situated at the intersection of gender studies and Judaism.
This panel is also supported by the Dean of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the Jewish Studies program, the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality program, and the Department of History.
