100 Days Senior Celebration connects students and alumni

The class of 2017 will celebrate the passage from student to alumnus/a status at the 100 Days Senior Celebration, Feb. 10, in the Student Union Multipurpose Room on the New Paltz campus.

“The final 100 days before graduation is the time when students really begin to see life after New Paltz on the horizon,” said Director of Alumni Relations Shana Circe ’02 ’08g. “For some, this is really exciting and for others, a little scary. This celebration is a way for us to help students with the transition from student to alumni by answering their questions and providing them with guidance and support.”

Sponsored by the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, the event will provide information on the new changes to the spring undergraduate Commencement ceremony, available Alumni Relations programs and services, the Senior Gift program, and an official opportunity to mark their last 100 days on campus. Alumni Council representatives and other alumni will be on hand to answer any questions students have about planning for their futures.

“Many of our seniors don’t consider the fact that they were New Paltz students for just four years, but they will be alumni forever,” said Circe. “We want them to know the Alumni Relations office is here for them through all stages of life after graduation.”

Senior Teresa Mandarin ’17 (Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies) hopes that the 100 Days Celebration will connect her with other students excited about the future, and provide her with the information and tools she needs to make the most of her days on campus.

“I think 100 Days is a great way to engage the graduating class while also giving us a small push in the right direction for our post-grad lives.,” said Mandarin. “I’ve been working with the Commencement Office since my sophomore year, so it’s exciting for it to finally be my turn. While I’m attending partially because it is my job, I’m looking forward to making it a more personal experience this year, instead of just watching my upperclassmen friends go through it”
