Q & A with journalist & Sandy Hook Promise co-founder Rob Cox, Feb. 6 at SUNY New Paltz
Financial journalist and editorial entrepreneur Rob Cox will discuss his life and work at a Feb. 6 Q & A at SUNY New Paltz. The event will be held at 6 p.m. at the Honors Center on the New Paltz campus, and is free and open to the public.
The session is meant to introduce Cox to students, faculty and community members, as he begins his tenure as the College’s 2017 James H. Ottaway Sr. Visiting Professor of Journalism. President Donald P. Christian will interview Cox and invite questions from the audience.
Rob Cox is the global editor and cofounder of Reuters Breakingviews, the financial commentary division of Thomson Reuters. He is a frequent contributor to CNBC and has written opinion pieces for the Wall Street Journal, BuzzFeed, Newsweek, USA Today and other publications.
A resident of Newtown, Conn., Cox also helped found the organization Sandy Hook Promise, which formed in the wake of the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and which is dedicated to combating gun violence.
As the spring ’17 Ottaway Visiting Professor, Cox joins the New Paltz faculty to teach an upper-level journalism seminar called “Financial Journalism and the Business of Media,” and, more broadly, to share his insights about the journalism profession with aspiring undergraduate students and other members of the community.
The James H. Ottaway Sr. Visiting Professorship, SUNY New Paltz’s only endowed professorship, is named for the founder of Ottaway Newspapers Inc., now the Dow Jones Local Media Group, which operates print and online community media franchises in seven states. Fifteen well-known journalists have preceded Cox as Ottaway professors, including four Pulitzer Prize winners.
