SUNY-based online tutoring service is coming to New Paltz
The Center for Student Success at SUNY New Paltz will introduce a new online tutoring service for all students this fall, via the SUNY STAR-NY (Sharing Technology and Academic Resources) Consortium.
“The service will enhance and expand upon the Center’s current academic support offerings in a manner consistent with the institutional goals of supporting educational access and degree completion,” Center for Student Success Director Dante Cantú said.
STAR-NY is a growing collective of SUNY colleges and universities who share resources in order to better meet student needs for online tutoring.
The free service will allow New Paltz students to access subject-specific online tutoring with just their SUNY ID, from 7 p.m. until midnight, Sunday – Thursday. Tutoring subjects offered include writing, chemistry, accounting, calculus and statistics, among other lower-division courses.
“We are particularly hopeful that online tutoring through STAR-NY will serve as an additional, arguably vital resource for segments of our student population with unique barriers to success,” Cantú said. “This includes students such as military and veteran students, transfer commuters, adult and online learners, students with disabilities, and potentially some developmental students.”
New Paltz joins SUNY Cortland, SUNY Delhi, University of Buffalo, Alfred State, SUNY Oswego, SUNY Binghamton and SUNY Ulster in the STAR-NY program.
Center for Student Success staff will hold STAR-NY information sessions for faculty and staff at the start of the fall semester.
