College mourns the passing of former professor and department chair
It is with great sadness that the College shares the news of the passing of Dr. Harry White, former New Paltz professor and department chair (Education). He was 82.
White was a gifted athlete and scholar whose achievements in high school earned him a scholarship to Yale University where he earned a BA in American Studies. He went on to earn a master’s degree in Education from SUNY New Paltz and a Ph.D. from Stanford University in International and Comparative Education.
During his career he served as an elementary school teacher; research associate for Stanford University in Lima, Peru; research specialist for the United States/Brazilian Team for Technical Assistance for Primary Education in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and elementary education advisor for the United States Agency for International Development in Recife, Brazil. In 1993, he retired from SUNY New Paltz after more than 30 years of service.
