SUNY New Paltz Distinguished Speaker Series welcomes journalist and author Richard Louv
SUNY Paltz New Paltz Distinguished Speaker Series proudly welcomes journalist and author Richard Louv to speak on “The Nature-Rich Life,” on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Lecture Center 100 on the New Paltz campus.
In his talk, Louv identifies seven basic concepts that can help us reshape our lives. By tapping into the restorative powers of nature, we can boost mental acuity and creativity; promote health and wellness; build smarter and more sustainable businesses, communities, and economies; and ultimately strengthen human bonds.
The author of eight books, including “The Nature Principle: Reconnecting with Life in a Virtual Age” and “Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder,” Louv is credited with launching an international movement to connect children and their families to nature and community.
He has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Times of London, and other major publications. He also served as a columnist for The San Diego Union-Tribune and Parents magazine. In addition, Louv appears frequently on national radio and television programs, including the Today Show, CBS Evening News, NPR’s Fresh Air, and often speaks at national and international gatherings.
Louv is co-founder and chairman emeritus of the Children & Nature Network, an organization helping build the international movement to connect people and communities to the natural world. In addition, he serves as honorary co-chair of Canada’s Child in Nature Alliance, is a member of the Ecopsychology editorial board, serves on the ecoAmerica board of directors, and is a member of the Citistates Group.
