Doug Sheppard Golf Classic raises scholarship money for students

More than 130 participants teed off at the annual Doug Sheppard Classic: SUNY New Paltz’s Scholarship Golf Tournament on Monday, June 9, at the Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston, N.Y.

The golf tournament raised nearly $50,000 to support New Paltz students who need financial assistance to continue their college studies.

“This tournament enables us to further support our students by providing scholarships for them to continue to pursue their education at SUNY New Paltz,” said Lisa Sandick, program director for special events and sponsorships. “We are grateful for the many golfers and sponsors who contributed their time and money to support our students.”

The day, sponsored by Architecture +, Campus Auxiliary Services, IBEW, Liberty Mutual, Local 17, M&T Bank, NEEBO, Niram Inc., Siemens, Sodexo, Timely Signs, U.W. Marx Construction Company, and Wilmorite, included 18 holes of golf, breakfast, on-course refreshments, a cocktail reception, and an awards banquet dinner.

To date, nearly $450,000 in scholarship money has been raised thanks to the annual support and participation of  dedicated  golfers and sponsors.

About the Doug Sheppard Classic
The tournament is named in memory of longtime professor, administrator and coach, Doug Sheppard, who died in 2008. Shep, as many knew him, was New Paltz’s golf coach for 32 years. Shep was also an avid player, who was a familiar fixture at local golf courses and tournaments in the area.
