Women’s Basketball Falls to Oneonta

ONEONTA, NY- The New Paltz women’s basketball team fell to the Red Dragons of Oneonta, 57-48 Friday night. The Hawks falls to 9-6 overall and 6-2 in the league as Oneonta improves to 10-5 overall and 8-0 in the league.

Maggie Farrell led the Hawks with 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Kristen Caban added eight points and Carly Minehan had seven points and eight rebounds.

Oneonta was led by Samantha Szkotak with 12 points and six rebounds and Madison Slagle had 10 points. Sarah Waltersdorf had six points and eight rebounds and Sara Chrystie had a game-high six assists.

The Hawks opened the game on an 8-0 run, but Oneonta was able to respond with an 8-0 to tie the game with nine minutes, 27 seconds remaining in the half. The Hawks regained the lead again with an 8-1 run only to see Oneonta cut the lead to three at 18-15 with three minutes to left in the half. The Hawks would go into the break with a 24-21 lead and would hold a slight 14-10 advantage in points in the paint.

In the second half, the Red Dragons would slowly make a run at the Hawks and took the lead at 34-33 with 11 minutes, 29 seconds to go in the game. Oneonta pulled away with a 12-3 run to take a 46-36 lead with six minutes, 55 seconds to go. New Paltz would pull within four points at 51-47 with a minute and a half to go, but Oneonta would hold off the Hawks late rally for the win.
