Potsdam defeats Hawks in Men’s Basketball

POTSDAM, NY- The New Paltz men’s basketball team fell to the Bears of Potsdam, 71-52 Friday night. The Hawks fall to 8-8 overall and 4-6 in the league. Potsdam improves to 3-13 overall and 2-8 in the league.

Shereef Taylor and Jayquan Anderson each scored 10 points to lead the hawks and Harris Wichard chipped in with nine points and three steals.

Potsdam shot 70 percent from the field as a team and 78 percent from the free throw line, led by Curtis Pierce with 17 points and eight rebounds. Anthony Williams added 16 points and Edward Cross had 13 points.

In the first half, the teams battled to ties of 4-4 and 16-16 before the Bears finished the half on an 18-5 run to take a 34-21 lead at the break.

The second half, the Bears would pull away from the Hawks with a 20-7 run over a seven minute span. The Bears shot 77 percent from the floor in the half and 79 percent from the free throw line. The Hawks bench did outscore the Bears bench 13-5.
