Hawks Stay Unbeaten in Conference with Win over Geneseo
GENESEO, NY- The New Paltz women’s basketball team stayed undefeated with a 64-62 win over the Blue Knights from Geneseo Friday night.aDespite the Blue Knights shooting 47.8% (22-46) from the floor the Hawks forced 27 turnovers and had 17 steals.aNew Paltz improves to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the SUNYAC.aGeneseo falls to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the SUNYAC.aThe Hawks return to the court tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Brockport.
Senior Kristen Caban led the Hawks with 12 points and senior Maggie Farrell added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds with four assists.aSenior Nicole Sarcone chipped in with six points and a six assists and senior Kristen Sitek added nine points and seven rebounds.
Alyssa Polosky led the Blue Knights with a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds and Khadija Campbell added nine points, six rebounds and four steals.aMelissa Graham chipped in with nine points and five rebounds and Bri Dunton added six points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals.
The Blue Knights opened the game on a 10-5 run only to see the Hawks come back to take a one point lead at 11-10.aGeneseo would respond with a 10-0 run over the next 5:40 to take a 20-11 lead.aThe Hawks would finish the last seven and half minutes strong with a 23-5 run to take a 34-25 half time advantage.
In the second half, Geneseo came out scoring 12 of the first 15 points to tie the game at 37-37.aThe Hawks would build the lead back up to nine at 51-42 only to see the Blue Knights cut the lead to one at 53-52 with 5:11 remaining.aThe Blue Knights would continue the comeback with a 7-3 run to hold a five point lead at 6-55 with 2:33 remaining.aThe Hawks would finish the game on a 9-2 run to hold off Geneseo for the victory.
