Fredonia Edges out Hawks in Men’s Basketball

NEW PALTZ, NY- A Brad Cooper jump shot with eight minutes, four seconds remaining in the game gave the Blue Devils a 50-48 lead that Fredonia would not let slip away for the 70-59 league victory.Fredonia improves to 6-5 overall and 4-1 in the league.

Sophomore Harris Wichard led the Hawks with a game-high 18 points, five rebounds and three steals.Sophomore Jayquan Anderson chipped in with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting, five rebounds and two blocks.Freshman Nick Taldi had nine points and senior Oppong Agyemang had a game-high four assists.

James Kane and Cooper led four Fredonia double-figure scorers with 14 points, including 14 rebounds for Kane.Greg MacBride had 12 points and Julius Bryant chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds.

The Hawk trailed by nine with 14:50 remaining in the game.After a technical foul on Fredonia, Wichard hit both free throws to pull the Hawks within seven.After back-to-back lay-ups by Matt Devine and Wichard the Hawks were trailing 41-38.Joseph Monahan three-pointer in the corner gave the Blue Devils a six point lead with 12:07 to go.Taldi hit a three-pointer at the top of the key to pull the Hawks within three again.Pete Carmel was fouled hard and Fredonia was issued a technical.Wichard and Carmel hit both of their free throws to give the Hawks a 45-44 lead with 11 minutes, seven seconds to go.Fredonia would regain the lead with a 19-4 run over a seven and half minutes span and wouldhold off the Hawks for the win.

Fredonia opened the game on a 13-4 run in the first seven minutes, but the Hawks battled back with 9-2 run of their own.The Blue Devils went into the break with a 30-23 lead.The Hawks outscored Fredonia 16-4 in the paint in the half.
